OqueStrada

Bio :

OqueStrada is born from the vision of Marta Miranda and Pablo – both coming from the world of entertainment, she as a theatre actress with experience on the hidden fado houses and Cape Verdean taverns, where she began to sing, he coming from France with a suitcase full of experience in urban intervention and show design – to create a portable musical project with the shape of a small neighbourhood orchestra ready to travel, where the personality and uniqueness of each one is the key point.

They invited João Lima along with his Portuguese guitar, to join the voice and the “contrabacia”. The trio always assure that the orchestra always kept the door open to other road lovers, accordionists, trumpetists and classical guitars.

OqueStrada set its base in the city on the other side of river Tagus, a lookout for Lisbon. In this suburban reality, they tackled the destiny and hit the road, building, year after year, their own circuit. “They left in search of a country and went on building a cult. From village to village, from town to town, they took by storm the capital city where they sold out venues while singing about a hidden and migrant Lisbon, about the suburbs as charmed places. Copies of home demos were circulating the country, making them a well-kept secret for many. “Their simple music grew on this adventure between small village fairs, “tascas”, festivals and city venues. In OqueStrada an adventurous and independent song was created out of few resources, assuming the acoustic sampling, the DIY and a well orchestrated musical vagrancy. Some of the instruments, like the “contrabacia”, the percussion chair and the tiny Yamaha keyboards came in and were saved from a sad end in the junkyard. They are now key parts to the compositions. To do the world with what one finds in the way is something the OqueStrada appreciates.

In 2009, seven years after the first concert, “TascaBeat – O Sonho Português”(“TascaBeat – The Portuguese Dream”) was released in Portugal, to wide acclaim, both from critics and public. It stayed for four months in the Portuguese charts (Top 30) for four months and in 2010 it will be given international release.

Pernas de Alicate

Bio :

Pernas De Alicate is not simply a project, it is the co-creation of images and sounds to make something new, crafted by two people who are together in everything: Carlos BB and Sara Feio. He sets the drum beat and she illustrates.
Each new piece of work starts from the baseline and grows from the ground up; while BB works with musicians to build new sounds, Sara works with artists to build new visuals.
BB and Sara both start from the same footing, and while they take on their own creative path with each new piece of work, the sounds and illustrations both end up in the same place, coming together completely. Just like bow legs.
Both BB and Sara invite musicians and illustrators to collaborate with them. The project itself is designed to be welcoming and open to new artists, using a different set of guests featured on each track. These organic collaborations are born out of a mutual desire to work with each other, without any planning from BB or Sara.
The work takes place at the Black Sheep Studios in Sintra, a prestigious part of Portugal's music history. The recording space has already housed the lieks of PAUS, Linda Martini, You Can't Win Charlie Brown, Anarchicks, Brass Wires Orchestra, and Juba.
Now the studio is home to Pernas de Alicate, too.

Kumpania Algazarra

Bio :

Kumpania Algazarra were born in 2004 in Sintra, like some sort of anti-routine brigade, inspired by the muses of festivity, in a exciting dialogue between music and animation, creating a framework for dancing and blissfullness.
Their seeds planted in the streets, stage of their first concerts, flourished, starting to give joy in the most diverse ocasions and situations like streets, gardens, squares, stages, alternative spaces, animations, weaddings, benefit causes, parties and festivals.
In 2008 they release their first album, that aspects all this journey.
Their music is nomad, multilingual and universal.
They\'re influened by a kaleidoscopic sonority: Balkan furor, Arabic drifting, Latin warmth, Afro-beat refinement and explosions of Klezmer and Ska.
The result of this variety of influences, brought together by a unique and original fusion process, is an energetic and contagious moment.
Their lyris invite to a reflection about the inhuman state of the world and stimulate individual liberation.
This musical project brings freshness and enriches the world music made in portugal, extinguishing geographical and age limits.

Gwydion

Bio :

Gwydion's journey started in 1995, a project founded by a group of friends that shared the same passion for metal and interest in Celtic culture. During these first stages of the band, three demos were presented to the Portuguese metal scene and dozens of gigs were performed throughout Portugal.

In 2007, Gwydion prepared to record their first full-length album "Ynys Mön". Their originality and effort triggered the interest of the German label TROLLZORN, which offered a contract to release the album. With Ynys Mön, Gwydion finally started to draw some international attention and ultimately received an invitation to make an European tour in October 2008 with top bands TYR, HOLLENTHON, ALESTORM, and SVARTSOT: the RAGNAROK AASKEREIA'S TOUR.

During 2009, Gwydion played in nearly all major metal Portuguese metal festivals, delivering a distinct sound and attitude, and received continuously great feedback. At the end of the year, Gwydion finished the recordings and production of their second album "Horn Triskelion". "Horn Triskelion" truly represented fifteen years of accumulated experience and ideas. The readers of Portugal's biggest metal magazine LOUD magazine have chosen GWYDION to be the 2nd best band over 2010 + their album "Horn Triskelion" was considered the 3rd best album of 2010!

Now, in 2013, Gwydion presents "VETERAN". Fans will experience a slightly different musical-style, as the music is much more epic and "metal" than folk compared to the previous release. Since the beginning of the band, they had a very influential epic component in their songs, so naturally when they created "VETERAN", they decided to have a strong mixture of heavy metal riffs and epic/folk songs. "VETERAN" is a story of a warrior since his birth through his training, conquests and defeats with relevance to the History of Portugal.

Since then Old Jerusalem has maintained a steady level of activity, between concerts, new releases – “Twice the humbling sun” (2005), the split-EP “Splitted” (2006) with Puny and Bruno Duarte, “The temple bell” (2007) and, more recently, “Two birds blessing” (2009) – and collaborations with other artists, not only as a musician (The Unplayable Sofa Guitar, Green Machine, The Neon Road, among others), but also as a writer, having worked on this level with artists as diverse as Carlos Bica, Bernardo Sassetti, Alla Polacca, Mandrágora and Kubik.
